THE RECENTLY ADDED

Devin Townsend Project "Transcendence"

Just in case nobody bothered counting, let me help you realize that this is Townsend's seventeenth release. It's truly impressive to witness just how productive this man has been on creation efforts since disbanding Strapping Young Lad many moons ago. Not only does he pump out album after album, his consistency in quality is what stands out. While many groups will sacrifice quality over quantity, it's obvious that Townsend is just loaded with so many super strong ideas, and is so capable of managing his time efficiently that he's cementing himself in history as one of the greatest musicians of our time alongside Trent Reznor and the boys in Meshuggah.
On his latest gift to our ears, Townsend explodes epic after epic, writing songs and composing themes that are best suited for epic fight sequences in Marvel movies. With endless choir vocals, alongside impressive and technical guitar sorcery, each track explodes in its lush run time. By the time four-five minutes pass on each track, Townsend has already accomplished so much, that Transcendence lures us in an addictive fashion, making the album have endless replay value.
"Truth" is one of the best openers of the year, and the buildups and releases found in "Failure," "Higher," and "Secret Sciences" are so mind boggling that you'll instantly want to run and share the songs you discovered with all your metalhead friends. Townsend knows how to combine elements of djent, prog, and atmospheric design to write some of the best music in the world. If you don't have the time to explore his endless catalogue, Transcendence is certainly one of the best places to start for a glimpse into the mind of a genius.
