Skeletonwitch “Devouring Radiant Light”

Embracing a traditional metal tone has been the ticket for the band since their inception, and while it’s worked promisingly in partnering the band with some of the genre’s ultra elite, it has kept the act as a b-side for almost a decade. On their latest record, Skeletonwitch craft fine tunes, but none that really sail away into glory or highlight just how miraculous the band could be if they focused on animated songwriting. Instead, it’s the consistent tried and true that keeps the record afloat, and while it’s a smooth “classic metal” listen from front to back, the few times I listened to the record it most certainly remained in the background. For any metal album, that most certainly is not a compliment.
