This is a fresh blend of black metal and hardcore fused together that brings early Converge, legacy act Orchid’s tendencies, and Deafheaven’s screechy vocal delivery. In just over twenty minutes, the band dishes up some seriously passionate, ultra urgent music, and with dark melodies like what’s found on “Among Friends,” it’s clear Portrayal Of Guilt have a knack to stick around. While there is no shortage of acclaim for this record, it’s unfortunate there hasn’t been proper hype from the tertiary and secondary labels (what exactly is Gilead Media?) that could greatly benefit from a spotlight act. This will no doubt get scooped up and re-released by Pure Noise or Deathwish in the coming months. Stay tuned.
