Ghost records for NIN have never really been the full scope and vision of the band in my opinion, so when everyone jumped with glee when these two plopped unannounced like “oh my god! not one, but two NIN records?!” I was like “nah ya’ll, it’s just Ghost albums.” Which are exactly that. Ghosts of the NIN legacy. Shadows almost. Dreary ambiance, loose acoustic piano, Atticus soundscapes, etc. This isn’t packed with hits and emo lyrics about self reflection and introspection like we’ve come to adore. Only diehards dare enter who understand that this is merely color for the catalogue at large.
