THE RECENTLY ADDED

The Ocean “Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic”

I wish The Ocean would learn how to write a more efficient, concise record, because their melodies are so infectious, but with eight to thirteen minute song lengths, I just can’t even be bothered to sell this to anyone. Plus some of the riffs are so uninspired and go on for so long, for obvious reasons to enable the vocals to soar, but there should be a little bit of pushback from the band because some of it is genuinely boring. To think there is an instrumental version of this album is completely beyond me. Without the vocals it’s really just bland atmospheric metal. If you do have time and still haven’t ever heard the band (or seen their explosive live show) check out “Jurassic | Cretaceous” and take if from there if you still aren’t running late for work.
