Ten years in the making, the swedish djent lords deliver a massive undertaking with their follow up to 2011’s “Måsstaden” with eighty minutes of off the wall grooves, mind bending guitar tones, atmospheric cleans, reminding us what djent was like in the decade since their THALL delivery. It’s surprising just how much time has passed between albums (although there is the marvelous EP in between) and the sound is still so undoubtedly fresh. This is an overwhelming listen that demands your full attention and ranks high amongst some of the year’s top records. It will certainly be highlighted for many as their AOTY. For newcomers, this is basically “Watershed” era Opeth meets “Nothing” era Meshuggah.
