THE RECENTLY ADDED

Metallica “72 Seasons”

Some sweet new Metallica that isn’t cringeworthy ala “The Memory Remains” and “Fuel,” but there’s nothing here that’s really memorable. The band escapes delivering straight cheese we’re so aware they’re capable of delivering, so I suppose that’s a plus (even though it’s hard to believe the entire production team went through the creation of “If Darkness Had a Son” and gave it the green light). I’m not going to sit here and type up opinions about the most successful metal band of all time, but it’s obviously not extreme metal, and I don’t think anyone is remotely even kidding themselves if they think otherwise. Good for Metallica for still slugging out new records forty years into their saga, but honestly I can’t wait to hear those Black Album jams live in August.
