Bear “Vanta”

Well if this isn’t one of the most powerful releases you’ll hear this year I don’t know what is. The Ocean has long forgotten how to be a heavy band, and over the last ten years Bear has stepped into the creative technical power prog space, combining elements of early Textures and Meshuggah to deliver something truly unique. While all these comparisons may reign supreme, the reality is there just simply is no comparison when discussing the Belgium act, that’s lost all relation to any competition whatsoever with what they’ve accomplished on what I’d consider their magnum opus. It’s a lot to digest, but just between “Defeatist” and “Repose Beyond Fate,” we’ve got two tracks that somehow feel like they’ve been delivered to us from ten years out into the future. An absolute auditory triumph, Bear deliver one of the year’s best.
