Not that their past two efforts have been marginal in the slightest bit, but "Severance" is such a quality listen from start to finish that it's almost breathtaking. Album opener is enough of a reason to read past page 100, and "Distance" should probably get song of the year over Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus' "Drive." The guitars are so spot on, the production so crisp, the melodies infectious and the vocals so focused, controlled and appropriate for each verse and explosive chorus that it's almost frustrating at how perfect HOAC have managed their craft. Truly exceptional, the boys have earned their right to one of the best releases of the past few years.
