Grimes "Art Angels"

Distancing herself from her strangely edited earlier efforts Art Angels finds itself catering luscious pop melodies in attempts to roll out big hooks and possible commercial elements that are absolutely more accessible.
Grimes is an interesting artist; writing, producing, performing all her work by herself. While the initial portion of her catalogue is a bit more artsy, ala Purity Ring and XX sentiments, Art Angels presents more formulated structures, expanding one or two ideas into huge blockbuster hits.
"Kill V. Maim" is a true standout with the first chorus turning the listener's head, while the title track is quite possibly her biggest showcase followed by an incredible second portion of the album. Some songs bring back to mind Little Dragon coos, while others display Gorillaz-esque synth pop.
While most electronic artists seek to remix and expand their existing catalogue, often exhausting rehashed ideas, Grimes instead focuses on new terrain, showcasing a focused, mature sound that could sync her tunes with commercial and retail success.
