The classic sounds of Buried Alive's Victory reissue is a welcome surprise in the world of hardcore. While this release may have been overlooked in 1991 by many, it's re-release draws attention to a crucial monument in the aggressive culture.
The meat and potatoes approach is at its purest, truest form here. The foundations are being set, track by track for everything Expire, Backtrack and King Nine would come to accomplish. The sounds of the production have drastically improved, and the experience is made enjoyable by a solid polish gloss over the presentation of the record.
While Victory may be struggling to sustain in modern times, signing bands that aren't really that daring and have no balls, Buried Alive reminds us of a different time when that Bulldog logo went a long way.
