Their seventh release finds the band in refined form. Churning out these alternative hooks seems like second nature with every album since Leviathan getting more and more accessible in sound. While this isn't the band's magnum opus, the album delivers eleven tracks of rock that flow smooth as water melting down a glacier. Album highlight "Ancient Kingdom" delivers on all fronts of the band's technicality and brilliant songwriting, and leaves a lasting impression after the release finishes. It's certainly a hot album of the moment and doesn't have any annoyances that littered The Hunter and Once More 'Round The Sun making Mastodon's latest release a true worthy addition to their already robust catalogue.
