Pallbearer "Heartless"

If you're looking for a big rock sound, with subtle ride-bell and strum ballads, then look no further than Pallbearer's latest magnum opus. It's catering to the stoner rock scene of The Sword, Sleep, and even strays a bit into progressive territory. But while the ballads are nice, and the big vocal harmonies add quality flare, there isn't enough sorcery to catapult this release into essential territory. Heartless makes for a great session listen and will probably end up on my elitists top year-end lists, but there isn't enough passion coming through the speakers to cement it as a mandate.
