Amenra “Mass IV”

Although the band has apparently been around for years, they’ve only landed into the spotlight of counterculture after their recent outing with Converge and Neurosis. While live, the band picks and plucks at their catalogue to find the most prolific hardcore wails an anthems in their arsenal, on record the tracks linger past the five/six minute mark and establish an atmospheric allure that gives more color to their efforts. While they’re certainly not a one dimensional outfit, this type of avant-garde Will Haven stuff hasn’t proven to sell well in the history of the genre. Here’s to hoping Amenra can appeal to the crowd of advanced listeners who can differentiate art from crap, and hopefully they’re smart enough to know the difference here. Either way, for anyone really, Mass VI is not an easy listen.
