If you’ve struggled to grasp the black metal space, and those raspy vocals alongside blast beats and Deftones strums don’t do it for you, then Craft is here to make it all ok. There’s a fine line with this genre producing music that’s actually tolerable and unbearable, and it first has to be understood to be experienced. Many of the back metal artists do play to these elements, it’s just that many times the delivery of the material is captured incorrectly, resulting in a sour experience for the listener. Craft deliver an emotional release, packed with lush color and creativity, that should be highlighted as a gateway band, almost like Deafheaven, and taken seriously if attempting to engage this space.
