At times the band’s brand of dark, punishing metal feels like it’s all going to fall off the rails, but then quickly gets back on track with late drummer Seth Howard’s awesome skill set to drive creative, groove oriented blasts. The riffage and vocal efforts are right out of the death metal playbook and bring a fresh tone to a classic sound. It’s unfortunate the band has lost a huge component of what made them such a highlight on this release, but here’s to hoping the band can regroup with a proper backline to drive the efforts of this release and get the attention it deserved for the right reasons.
