I thought 2023’s “Only Constant” was practically perfect and while Gel may get lumped in with Scowl, Spy, and End It during this current epoch’s hardcore revival, there’s terrific hardcore music in tow that sets them all drastically apart. But while those other bands shine in DIY rooms and hardcore balls, they often execute a little less than desired on record for me. Gel is not only a force on stage, but they’re definitely more like The Hope Conspiracy outside of The Hope Conspiracy in every awesome way. It’s great to see the act landing the Deftones festival, Louder Than Life and a noteworthy fall tour alongside Destiny Bond that will no doubt continue to spread the band’s lore into rooms far and wide as they support the latest peak in their catalogue. This band works HARD.
