It’s hard to believe that its been seven years since the last Oceano release. The band has had no trouble staying busy since their Earache debut fifteen years ago, and while the familiar chugging and explosive breakdowns the band is known for have undoubtedly returned, there are just too many efforts at musical balladry melded with strums and even an interlude that make this a longer listen than it needs to be. While band leader, frontman Adam Warren delivers another strong performance, it’s really just an eight song release that seems intended on reigniting interest in the band’s back catalog for scene newcomers who may have been too young to consider Oceano before Lorna Shore placed a massive spotlight on the genre over the last few years. But maybe not every record is intended to elevate a band, sometimes it’s ok for artists to keep at it simply for the love of the game.
